Chicago Worlds guide addendum: Schaumburg

Schaumburg is where Adepticon will be hosted and while it doesn't really compete with Chicago overall when it comes to things to do, it has the benefit of propinquity (which is basically an over-educated way to say "proximity," so hopefully that pointless word of the day helps someone). With that said, one of our friends and core Fair Gamers who lives in the area, Jack Otto (who some of you may know as jottootts), wanted to make people aware of what's available locally. Take it away, Jack!

Top things to do:
  • Legoland Discovery Center- This is a kid-friendly attraction with lots of Lego activities.
  • Woodfield Mall- This was once the largest mall in the world by store area. It still is a gigantic mall with tons of shops and restaurants.
  • Forest Preserves- If you’re looking to enjoy nature, there are a ton of forest preserves in and around Schaumburg.
    • Busse Woods is quite nice and has great hiking/biking trails. It also has a herd of Elk that like to come right up to the fence at the corner of Arlington Heights Rd and Higgins Rd.
Top places to eat:
  • Chef Ping- Best Chinese food in the suburbs. Lots of traditional and authentic dishes.1755 W Algonquin Rd, Rolling Meadows, IL 60008
  • Naxos: A Greek Island Restaurant- Traditional Greek food with flaming Saganaki, Pastichio, Gyros, Greek Chicken and more. 933 W Irving Park Rd, Itasca, IL 60143
  • Sushi Station- Conveyor belt sushi bar. Fun and reasonably priced. 1641 W Algonquin Rd, Rolling Meadows, IL 60008
  •  Kuma’s Corner- Heavy metal burger bar. Large beer selection and gigantic burgers topped with crazy toppings. (Chicken and waffles on a burger!) This place will be jammed pretty much non-stop during the convention, so expect a long wait. 1570 E Golf Rd, Schaumburg, IL 60173
  •  Johnnie’s Beef- This place is better than the usual suspects for Italian Beef. They also have Italian Lemonade. 1935 S Arlington Heights Rd, Arlington Heights, IL 60005
  •  Lou Malnati’s- Best place for deep dish pizza. Locations in Schaumburg and Elk Grove, both are equidistant from the convention center. 1050 E Higgins Rd, Elk Grove Village, IL 60007 or 1 S Roselle Rd, Schaumburg, IL 60193
  • Texas de Brazil- Brazilian Steakhouse, guys bring meat on a sword to your table until you say stop. A little pricey for dinner ($50+) but more reasonable at lunchtime.
Top Places to drink:
  • Bigby’s Pour House- Craft beer bar with an excellent selection. They don’t have an extensive food menu, so I’d recommend eating before going to this place. 1649 Algonquin Rd, Rolling Meadows, IL 60008 or 1700 W Lake St, Addison, IL 60101
  •  Village Tavern Grill- Sports bar with great food. Legendary chicken fingers. 901 W Wise Rd Schaumburg, IL 60193
  •  Bulldog Ale house- A pub with an extensive craft beer list, and great wings. 1480 Golf Rd Rolling Meadows, IL 60008
Thank you, Jack!

  1. Hey guys, 19 year wargaming vet here. I have lived in Schaumburg for three and half years now and can certainly vouch for this list, great work! The only change I would recommend is Brazil Express Churrasco Grill instead of Texas de Brazil. It's much more affordable and also right in Schaumburg!
