Gencon stuff and Star Wars: Legion

Unfortunately not much information about Armada from FFG other than "something big is coming," which can mean a lot. Super Star Destroyer? Huge wave 7? Another campaign? Armada 2.0? Who knows.

However, please enjoy these sweet pics of Star Wars: Legion, the upcoming FFG ground skirmish minis wargame.

Edit: and the official article just came up!

    1. Looks like a combination of X-Wing (attack dice and defense dice) with Armada ("jointed movement tools" according to official site) with some 40k unit cohesion thrown in. Seems like they're keeping with an activation-based round, also.

Official site also mentions "Even if you’ve never played a miniatures game or painted an army before..." which makes me think the models aren't going to be painted.

    2. It is definitely coming unpainted/unassembled. That's been a cause of some consternation, but I'm fine with that. I'm curious to see the mechanics as well before I get too crazy about it.

    3. I think this is FFG's shot at GW. They're already challenging Warhammer Fantasy with their Runewars game, and this is their chance to knock off 40k.

Challenge issued: We're going to be the big game company on the block. The question is how Legion sales go, and how GW responds.

  2. Will there be armada news later at gen con or will it be after the event?

    1. Doubtful it will be at Gencon. Likely sometime later this year. Whether that's days, weeks, or months away is hard to say.

  3. That's a shame, I was really hoping for some Armada love, I hope that no news isn't bad news.

I would like to thank both you and John for the amazing content you put up. I really appreciate the effort you have put into this blog. I can't wait to read your articles about wave 6!

  4. Tbh I doubt we'll ever get a dreadnought or a battlecruiser even if it would be cool

  5. What are some of the options for FFG's big Armada news?

    (1) A Super Star Destroyer for the Imperials. They've gone epic-scale for X-Wing, and this would be in the same vein. I don't think this is going to happen, however. The SSD is just out-of-scale for Armada. I could be wrong, and this would certainly qualify as a "big" announcement.

    (2) A large Wave 7, including a lot of ships from Rogue One. This could be likely, but the one new ship from Rogue One is the MC75 cruiser commanded by Admiral Raddus. Maybe you could add in U-Wings, but they're fighters.

They're still having problems with diversity of Imperial capital ships.

    (3) I think most likely is an announcement about ships from The Last Jedi. They'll be restricted by Lucasfilm regarding when they can release that information, which is likely why it's post-Gencon news. I think we're going to get First Order and Resistance capital ships.
